At Hanover Junction Pennsylvania

AT HANOVER JUNCTION, WHICH IS ON THE BIKE TRAIL, WE SEE ABRAHAM LINCOLN ON THE PLATFORM. THE PARTY IS RESTING ON THE WAY TO GETTYSBURG WHERE THE FAMOUS WORDS WILL BE SPOKEN.

I ride my bike past this place and my mind wonders to another time. During the trip to give the Address at Gettysburg the train turned left. Later, when the train was carrying his remains it turned right to Harrisburg and then to Philadelphia. During these times while passing here I am alone, and glad that I am along.

David's Hall of Heroes

This is my special place. This is where I honor certain women and men who have pushed civilization one step by one step, one inch by one inch, increment by increment one minute by one minute, day by night; night by day from the time when the species slept with the fire recently mastered continuing until this day.

I am the only one to vote here, there is no one else who votes here. I consider it my duty. The gratitude on these pages comes just from me although I know many others feel as I do about those to be named in this blog. I hope and trust that the short piece which I write for each honored subject is worthy of them.

Finally I do truly understand that this undertaking by such an old fool as me can reasonably be viewed by those that might pass by this blog as an exercise in arrogance. I would agree, but I make no apologies, if you are bored, move on to what fancies you.

My method is to nominate the individual first. Consider my nominee until I am sure she or he is worthy and then accept or reject the nomination. If accepted, I will write something.

My first two nominations for the Hall of Heroes are Abraham Lincoln and Albert Einstein.

My third nomination for the Hall of Heroes is Anne Frank.

A candidate need not be highly intelligent, profoundly moral, and artistically revolutionary. Did this person move the commonweal forward either directly or indirectly; intentionally or unintentionally?

Would I ever consider one such as Ann Frank? What did she ever do that made this place a better place? She was no more than a victim, a passive being absorbing the results of evil unable to contribute. But is this true? What about her Diary? Who is the person who can read her diary and remain unmoved or unaffected.

Today I nominate Richard Phillips Feynman as my fourth selection to my Hall of Heroes.
