American Exceptionalism

I would be proud and grateful to live in a country where the poor, the sickly and the slow-minded  are treated like human beings.

A place where sickness is treated, hunger is satisfied and if not love, at least respect is shown and opportunity is possible.

What kind of country do we have? The United States of America (I love to say our country’s name in full) ranks 175 out of 222 in the world in infant mortality. Ranking one would be very bad and 222 would be the best.

The United States of America ranks 6th in the world in adult obesity.

The United States of America ranks 50th in the world in life expectancy at birth.

The United States of America ranks 25th in the world for 15 year olds in mathematics.

The United States of America ranks 17th in the world for 15 year olds in science.

The United States of America ranks 14th in the world for 15 year olds in reading.

The United States of America ranks 8th in the world in research and development.

The United States of America ranks 12th in the world in the percentage of people who say they are thriving.

The United States of America ranks 14th in the world in teenage suicides.

The United States of America ranks 197th in the world in its current account balance.

To answer the question posed above, what kind of country do we have?

Not the best but not the worst.  A sort of mediocre standing.

Does this surprise you?

(If so, why does it surprise you, could it be it is because you are closed minded? or, more likely, live in a dream? )
