The Drumbeat of the Greedy

I have two quotes for consideration, one by Paul Krugman the other by Jorge Agustín Nicolás Ruiz de Santayana y Borrás.

“It took futuristic technology to achieve one of the worst ecological disasters on record. Without such technology, after all, BP couldn’t have drilled the Deepwater Horizon well in the first place.”

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

This aphorism by Santayana not only can be applied to the worst oil disaster but to the mindset of some in Congress and in the media who are so consumed by greed and intellectual control that they choose to ignore and to distort reality believing they can gamble against the natural law and human nature and win.

My wonderment about all this is how powerful the dream of greed is and how successful some individuals in the mass media have been in using it to convince those who are unsophisticated into thinking that their freedom to make money is being taken away from them.

Finally, the oil disaster may have saved the President from being remember in history as one of the many who succumbed to the drumbeat of the greedy.
